How can I use surface mount components?
Although neither Circuit Wizard nor PCB Wizard currently include surface mount components as part of their libraries, they both allow you to create and add your own surface mount components.
Please note that we are considering adding official SMT support to future versions of both Circuit Wizard and PCB Wizard. If this is something you would like to see, please let us know by telling us your SMT component suggestions.
Creating custom surface mount components
For details on how you can create your own components in Circuit Wizard and PCB Wizard, please see creating custom components.
In addition to the hints and tips given on the above linked page, you may also wish to consider the following:
To select a finer grid, choose from the options that can be found in the View | Grid/Snap menu. This includes being able to select a metric grid (many SMT components are based on a metric grid).
You can create a surface mount pad by selecting the rectangle pad shape and entering a hole size of 0. At the same time, you can also choose the appropriate copper layer for the pad.
Due to their smaller size, we recommend zooming in more closely to work with surface mount components than you would normally.
